This is, in many ways, the perfect novel to follow The Maltese Falcon. It shouldn't be a case, however, where Chris is unable to imagine anyone by the actor in the famous adaptation as the lead--it's hard to imagine Harrison Ford playing a character as petty and troubled as the novel's Deckard. Also a quite timely read, given the Gulf situation.
